3M Anodising Masking Tape 8985L is a reliable silicone-free solution for Type I (chromic acid) anodising. Designed for high performance, it is specifically resistant to chromic acid and provides sharp lines with a rubber adhesive for easy removal. This tape can be used for masking and de-masking up to 5x faster* than labour-intensive liquid masking to improve productivity. 3M Anodising Masking Tape 8985L has a tough polyester backing that withstands chromic acid anodising baths (Type I anodising). It also has a silicone-free rubber adhesive to minimise the risk of silicone contamination that could affect downstream processes such as bonding or paint adhesion. This tape provides sharp masking edges, minimises leakage and the need for rework and can be used with or without a chemical film on a wide range of aluminium and other metal alloys.

The best bonding results are achieved if you pre-clean the parts to be bonded, then roughen them (e.g. with Scotch-Brite 7447) and clean them again.
