3M UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight) polyethylene sliding tapes have a highly slippery surface due to their low coefficient of friction. They also have excellent abrasion resistance. The optimum combination of these properties makes these adhesive tapes particularly suitable for use as sliding tapes. These tapes are also self-lubricating, resistant to moisture and many chemical agents. They are repellent to most dry or pasty substances and have good puncture and impact resistance. The 3M sliding tapes differ in terms of thickness and different adhesive versions.

The best bonding results are achieved if you pre-clean the parts to be bonded, then roughen them (e.g. with Scotch-Brite 7447) and clean them again. Scotch Tape 6890 is a high performance packaging tape with a PVC backing and a solvent-based natural rubber/resin adhesive. The PVC backing is moisture and chemical resistant. It can be torn off by hand and is quiet when unwinding. The adhesive is characterised by high initial adhesion and shear strength on cardboard packaging. The packaging tape is suitable for use with heat shrinking. The adhesive tape is ideally applied to a clean, dry and dust-free cardboard surface at room temperature.
